During the period of multiple weeks, the American president began displaying the public his designs for a gilded ballroom twice the size than the White House and then began unilaterally ripping down the East Wing portion to construct it.
He has committed acts ten thousand times worse – the current estimate of casualties due to his slashing to international aid is 600,000 and rising, and this week an analysis forecast his petroleum strategies would kill 1.3 million more. However nothing as distinctive. No previous president would have dared – truly, no previous leader would have imagined – unilaterally destroying significant portions of the executive mansion in order to erect a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the direct cooperation of multiple America's wealthiest, nearly all of which have business with public institutions.

As disorienting as it is to watch the president attempt to overturn the established notion about democracy and replace it with its complete opposite, there is one large group within America who might not perceive it completely novel. That encompasses people such as ourselves – in older age cohorts a near majority – who were brought up as conventional Protestant believers.
We have watched throughout the years as politically conservative religious groups transformed the Christ we were raised with into the total contrary of who we understood him to be.
